Congratulations on your new bundle of joy! I know how important capturing those precious moments with your newborn is. My goal is to provide a hassle-free and enjoyable shooting experience that results in beautiful photos you will cherish for years. Here are some tips and tricks for getting ready for your newborn session.
Lets get started!
The comfort and safety of your baby is my top priority. The room will be warmed to 78-80 degrees and a sound machine will be playing to soothe your little one. You must be comfortable with me handling your baby because newborn photography is very hands on! Newborn sessions typically last anywhere from 2-3 hours, allowing plenty of time for feeding, changing, and posing your little one. My newborn sessions typically take place within the first two weeks of your baby's life, as this is when they are most sleepy and cooperative!
During the session, I will work with you to create a variety of poses and setups that highlight your baby's unique features. I use gentle, soft lighting and props to create a warm and comfortable environment for your baby. When baby needs a break, we'll take a break. Don't worry if baby is fussy, they are not used to being handled, posed and moved so much and it may take a while for them to settle down. Most babies need to eat at least once if not twice during their session.
Your baby will be wrapped or in a diaper with a cover for the session. We have all of the wraps, bonnets, hats and props needed for a beautiful session. Please dress baby in a zip up sleeper for easy removal.
We recommend wearing neutral, solid-colored clothing to your session, as this will not distract from your baby's natural beauty. Avoid wearing bright colors or patterns that may clash with the background or take away from the focus of the photos. Do not hesitate to ask me for help in choosing outfits!
Your baby
parents & siblings
We recommend bringing a few extra diapers, wipes, paci, and a change of clothes for both you and your baby. I do have diapers and wipes at the studio if you forget! I also recommend bringing a bottle or two of formula or pumped milk, even if you plan to breastfeed, in case your baby gets hungry during the session.
You should expect to arrive 5-10 minutes before your scheduled time to allow for a feeding if needed.
Keep your baby well-fed and rested before the session to ensure they are calm and sleepy.
Dress your baby in loose, comfortable clothing, to help with undressing.
If there are any special items or props that you would like to include in the photos, please let me know ahead of time.
Try and keep baby awake for a couple of hours before the session. Do not stress if you are not able to do this!
CAN I BRING SIBLINGS OR FAMILY MEMBERS?
It is only reccomended to bring either your spouse or 1 family member to the session. My studio space is small, and I would not have the seating area to accommodate several family members. You can come just you as well! I will be handling the baby during the session while mom relaxes.
This is only natural and doesn't tend to last the entire session. If baby cries and no amount of soothing, changing, feeding and winding changes this we can simply reschedule your session as it may be that they are coming down with something. More often, with some time, patience and perseverance all babies will settle and we will be able to create beautiful images - awake or asleep.
Your proof images will be ready for viewing within 72 hours of your session. Once chosen favorites, I will have final edited gallery within 2 weeks.
Any additional images are $15 per image. You will have the option to fully upgrade the gallery for a flat fee.
It has happened before and it will happen again many times so it really isn't a problem and you don't need to feel guilty! That is what the change of clothes for you and baby are for just in case!
